The Indie Spotlight

I remember a time when there was no "The Indie Spotlight" show,  even before, it was an idea.  One day in October 2012 I receive an email from artist Jan Le'Brandt requesting I play his music. We had just launched Euphonious two weeks prior to his email.  This was the first request Euphonious Radio had received from an artist. I was completely freaked out and when I eventually came back to a normal range of thought, I responded by saying, "Yes, of course" and "How would you like to do a live interview by telephone? Within minutes we had our first artist interview scheduled to air in a couple of days.  

This was my first experience doing live radio and it was exciting and terrifying all at the same time. It was also the best adrenaline rush I have ever experienced, this was the very beginning of "The Indie Spotlight" except it was still a nameless show.  I was operating Euphonious with my good friend Jody at the time. Together, we prepared ourselves for our first show and we were going live to air. I remember how much I was shaking I was so nervous but once the initial nerves passed I was fine. Now, Jody had years of DJ experience, so for him it was just another gig, no over active nerves. We kept Jan on the phone for sixty minutes we spoke about his music past / present and played his four original songs he had recorded at the time. We all instantly connected and the show was a lot of fun and was the beginning of a music relationship that will continue for years to come, I hope. 

Now, eight months and fifteen episodes later the show has evolved into a one week free promotional opportunity for new / independent bands and soloists. With a song play hourly, a daily broadcast of ‘The Indie Spotlight’ and of course unlimited Facebook and Twitter coverage. An area which seems to get overlooked or minimized, is a permanent link on the Euphonious Radio web page; ‘Indie Music’.  

‘The Indie Spotlight’ is a true offering of support to the world Indie Music scene from Euphonious Radio. 

The Best Support Is Listening

Euphonious Radio is gaining a lot of support with the help from Facebook, Twitter and Blogger. However, the best way to support Euphonious is to listen and provide helpful feedback.

I feel a critical decision coming on in the near future and I don't want to be faced with having to make it. With the arrival of iTunes Radio in the fall 2013 will Euphonious Radio have any relevancy?

In theory, I think it does as long as people continue to listen.  Euphonious Radio supports Indie music where I'm not sure iTunes Radio will. I put a lot of hours in planning shows where you won't get special shows on iTunes Radio.

For those who know me personally, know I have become a huge supporter of Apple products in the past five or six years now. The Euphonious platform is built with Apple products, compatible software and peripherals.

Actually, when I started Euphonious Radio I asked myself, why doesn't Apple do this? After all they have the largest music library in the world! Well, I guess someone heard me ask the question.

I love Euphonious Radio, I am very proud of what I have created from the pure love of music.
It saddens me deeply, believe me when I ask myself will people still tune into Euphonious Radio when iTunes Radio arrives?

Shining Bright

Since I was a young boy, I wanted to be in the music business. I guess it is fair to say my passion is music. I have tried playing instruments over the years but I never found the one that felt right, it felt to forced.
I allowed others and their fool hardy advice to steer me in a direction of real jobs and the security of a regular pay cheque. Most of us are well aware that this no longer exits and really did it ever?
Then after twenty-three years of working at real jobs that never really brought me true satisfaction, I find myself on an island.
Unfortunately, this is not the sun shining and fun filled paradise  but rather one of frustration and disparity.  Unemployable due to a chronic pain condition and without any disability benefits, my last employer terminated me and the Canadian government denied me of any disability benefits.
I find myself isolated from the regular world and all on my own. I thought for months what should I do and then decided along with my good friend Jody to create Euphonious.  Our business venture was too taxing on our friendship, so we decided to remain friends. Euphonious, now became my solo venture and the possibilities only limited by my own imagination.
After months of trying different things I think I finally found the right combination of shows to entertain Euphonious listeners.
Euphonious is my shining star and I think it is shining very bright at the moment. If you have never listened in, I suggest you do, I think you will like it (www.euphonious.ca). I want Euphonious to be a pleasurable music listening experience for the true music fan as well as the casual ones. I take a lot pride in my support towards the Indie Music scene. I know how tough it can be to get airplay on mainstream radio but now there is another option, it is called Euphonious Radio.
My intention is to keep nurturing my star and hopefully it will continue to shine so bright.

A Myriad of Shows

The purpose  of Euphonious is to simply enjoy the pleasure of listening to great music.  I believe that variety is an important part of enjoying music. Therefore, I offer a mix of music like nowhere else, I welcome Rock, Jazz, Pop, Country, Blues and much more all on one web radio station.

Another signature feature of Euphonious is supporting the Indie Music community. I am absolutely thrilled how positive  Indie Artists from around the globe have been contributing their music to Euphonious. I must say how talented all of these artists are and I welcome all radio ready Indie Artists. I wish I had the funds to start my own record label it would be easy to do with all these great artist submissions.

This has inspired me to create "The Indie Spotlight". This is a combination of the song of the day and a daily broadcast of a 60 minute conversation with the artist(s). It started as a weekly one hour show and now has evolved into a free one week promotional opportunity. As you can imagine, this has become very popular with the Indie artists and their fans.

A new upcoming show is "In Between The Grooves" which features great vinyl recordings. This show was inspired from the passion of my good friend Jody and his massive collection.

Then, another upcoming show is "The Concert Hall" where a different collection of live music will be featured each week. I have always loved seeing live performances of my favourite music. This show will be the next best thing.

There are now a total of thirteen music related shows to enjoy and there is now a schedule  to help you navigate through all of these great shows.

I am very proud of Euphonious and how it has grown in such a short time. I look forward to seeing  the listenership continue to grow and interact with each other on Twitter and Facebook. I hope Euphonious grows into an international community where music lovers can converge and interact with one another all "For The Love of Music".

The beginning of Euphonious

Welcome to the new blog for the web radio station www.euphonious.ca from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Here is where you will find details to the happenings of my free web radio station.  I created Euphonious.ca with my good friend Jody Ure and we began broadcasting a huge library of music (mostly Jody's library) back in October 2012, just as a couple of  fanatical music Lovers.     

Unfortunately, our business relationship began to burden our friendship and by February 2013 we made the mutual decision to remain friends and dissolve our business relationship. Since, Jody has a full time job and I don't anymore as my health drove me out of the job market. It made sense for me to continue with Euphonious and it would become my job.

I learned rather quickly to my surprise that just playing great music wasn't going to be enough to bring listeners to Euphonious.ca. I thought the idea of playing all major genres of music like Rock, Pop, Jazz, Country, Blues and Classical, all on one station would be the ticket to getting large flocks of listeners to tune in. I was wrong again.

So then, I have created a weekly radio show titled "The Indie Spotlight" which features a new or independent music band and/or solo artist each week discussing their projects and as a catalyst for helping these artists to sell their music. "The Indie Spotlight" now has become a free one week promotional opportunity for the Indie Music community where I play a different song each day of the artist and once an hour. I also introduced a daily Music Trivia question where you can win cd's or tickets to concerts.

All of these efforts have made little but no major difference to my listenership numbers. I know it has been only five months and I need to be patient. I love Euphonious, I am extremely proud of what I have created out of nothing more than a passion for music. This blog is another effort in spreading the word about Euphonious a commercial free independent broadcast promising a diverse music experience at www.euphonious.ca.
