The Love Of Music

Well, winter is definitely in the air, the nights are very cold and the day's range from cold to comfortable, like in a t-shirt and jeans along with a hoodie. Although, the weather is constantly changing, our love for great music never does and there is never a shortage of new and classic music for your listening pleasure. The love for Indie music on Euphonious Radio is very much alive and kicking-ass.
Since the beginning of Euphonious Radio (2012) we have met close to one hundred plus musicians from all over the globe. They support the concept of Euphonious and therefore they willingly share their music with us, so we can enhance your music experience.
The relationship of Loving The Music can start anywhere with anyone, it's not dependent on anything other than pure love.
It's not dependent on a membership card or certain type of credit card. Anyone, anywhere can enjoy the love of music. It is all around us, on the radio, the web, the t.v. and on our cell phones and of course our MP3 players.
When a soul relinquishes itself to the music on hand, it is simply a beautiful thing.
It is this, spirit of loving music that drives my internet radio station Euphonious Radio.
If you have listened before and enjoyed the experience, please do share us with your follower's and don't be shy, please make some time to comeback and enjoy the music!
If you are new to us that is also great, please do enjoy your music experience with Euphonious Radio.

The Sugar Blue's

On Friday September 27th there was an all star line-up of living Blues Legends along with a few up and coming local Blues brothers and sisters. They were all apart of a once and lifetime show at Hamilton Place dubbed as the 'Blues Explosion'.
I was unaware of this incredible event until I saw the worlds greatest Harmonica player rock the socks off everyone, on CHCH Morning Live.  Of course, it was no other than the great 'Sugar Blue!' Soon after watching him play in disbelief I thought, I need to see if he would be interested in coming on Euphonious Radio. I contacted him through Facebook and his response was quick and positive, I must say he was easily accessible and it was an absolute honour to speak with him.
Our conversation with Sugar Blue will be aired as part of the weekly Blues Show and the Indie Spotlight. In the meantime, you can enjoy some current and classic videos of him on You Tube performing his own original recordings and some others.
The Blues Explosion show was great and well worth the $70.00 ticket price for a fourth row centre seat and the sound of the room was truly, awesome!
I will expand more on the show over the next few posts, this one is all about 'Sugar Blue', 'The World's Greatest Harp Player'.
If you have seen him play you will agree, he is a master of the Harmonica, without any doubt. He has learned techniques which allows him to produce sounds like no one else. There are times when it sounds like there are two players instead of just a solo player. Somehow, he can play the bass and rhythm sections at the same time or at least make it sound like it. Unfortunately, there was some politics which prevented him from playing more than a song. I still do not fully understand what happened but I know it was related to the low ticket sales. It was a big disappointment, however I'm sure he did what he had to do, as opposed to what he wanted to.
It was definitely a highlight for Euphonious Radio, meeting with him and recording a conversation which will be aired on Sunday October 20, 2013. I really hope, I get another chance to see him perform a full show.

The Sounds Of Summer

Well, with summer beyond it's peak and beginning to wind down with school returning in two weeks. I'm glad to have been able to get out and see a couple of local concerts.
I went with my good friend Jody to The Artword Artbar on 15 Colbourne St. in Hamilton, ON and checked out the very first show of The Sweet Nothings a Jazz Trio from Hamilton, the line up is: Tom Shea (guitars, vocals), Angela Maccaroni (flute, vocals) and Jennifer Lockman (keys, vocals). A very sweet sound you won't want to miss, believe you me!  You can sample their sound on my You Tube channel, Euphonified, I took some video while I was there. Opening for them was the latest reincarnation of Say Goodnight Gracie an Alternative/Folk/Blues Trio also from the Hamilton Area. The current line up is Brandon General (guitar/vocals) and Brennagh Burns (guitar/vocals) and Roxanne Rindell (vocals). This was another wonderful sounding act where you will also find a video on my Euphonified channel.  They are in the process of recording songs for their debut cd.
The Artword Artbar is a great venue for live music where the intimate setting provides good acoustics and the odds are in your favour by the end of the evening, you will have made a new acquaintance or two, where "the more the merrier" really rings true here.
The other venue was The Festival Of Friends at the Ancaster Fairgrounds on the Independent Music stage. The artist was a singer/songwriter from Burlington, ON Hayley Roscoe (guitar/keyboard/vocals) where I recorded some audio/video footage of her act for future broadcast on Euphonious Radio. She was accompanied by Calvin Bernard on cahoun and the two sounded great together, she was showcasing songs from her debut EP 'Catalyst'. A very solid effort from both and they even performed her brand new song 'Fool' which was also very solid. I highly recommend her six song EP 'Catalyst' where you can purchase on iTunes.
For me listening to music with a warm breezy air and an evening under the stars, is the absolute best. Oddly and luckily, I have never experienced a downpour during an outdoor concert, a very good omen, I suppose.
Another summertime favourite for me is being around a campfire with friends & family and being serenaded with a solo performance by another music lover. Summer itself brings it's own music along the way. As I sit outside with my iPod attached to me as if it were some type of intravenous feeding machine, enjoying some great music. I guess in a way it is, as it feeds me one song after another, indefinitely, as I have set my device in endless shuffle. The rustling of the leaves in the trees and the background booming sounds from auto enthusiasts blasting their favourite songs, through systems that cost as much as a small down payment on a house (I'm jealous).  Listening to music outdoors with friends & family on the patio, while enjoying a delicious BBQ meal, is also a splendid way to enjoy some tunes. While enjoying some lip smacking beverages, of course.
Another way, that is pretty cool, is on the open water. Whether it be in a fishing boat or in a speedboat, sailboat or just relaxing on the beach.  There is something very liberating about being able to listen to music just about anywhere these days.
This summer marks the first for Euphonious Radio and unfortunately we are unable to celebrate it properly. Due to an unconventional move, I had to put all of it's equipment in storage. Believe you me, it was not an easy decision, as it was gaining popularity. However, I am convinced when we return to the cyber waves, we can improve even more on the listenership numbers. When we do get back on the air it will be just in time for it's one year Anniversary celebrations. I am hoping next summer to be broadcasting somewhere live at one or two outdoor venues.
In the summer, to me it is a great feeling to be able to sit outside very peacefully enjoying music wherever I like, I love it.
However you enjoy listening to your favourite music in the summer, I hope you had a chance to do so.
Soon, the leaves will be changing colours and we will be enjoying more music, just in a different way.

Moved and Stored

On July 22, 2013 Euphonious Radio went off air in preparation of a move which took place on July 30th. We have moved from Hamilton, ON to Brantford, a city with a population  of about 80,000 and approximately 50 km southwest of Hamilton. You may have heard about Brantford before, as it's the birthplace of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.

It was a strange feeling packing Euphonious Radio's equipment in cardboard boxes. It felt to me, as if I was burying my best friend.

The house we will be moving to is being renovated and won't be ready until October 1st, so we are storing our possessions until then.

In the meantime, the four of us, plus our brown lab (aka. Sasha  the studio dog) and Lilly the budgie, have moved into my in-laws house temporarily. During this time it is not practical to set-up the equipment. But rather I am using the time to enjoy some R&R with my family and plan for the second broadcast season of Euphonious Radio.

The return to air date is on October 14, just in time to celebrate the one year anniversary of Euphonious Radio. I am currently planning a special celebration to mark this milestone.

The Indie Spotlight

I remember a time when there was no "The Indie Spotlight" show,  even before, it was an idea.  One day in October 2012 I receive an email from artist Jan Le'Brandt requesting I play his music. We had just launched Euphonious two weeks prior to his email.  This was the first request Euphonious Radio had received from an artist. I was completely freaked out and when I eventually came back to a normal range of thought, I responded by saying, "Yes, of course" and "How would you like to do a live interview by telephone? Within minutes we had our first artist interview scheduled to air in a couple of days.
This was my first experience doing live radio and it was exciting and terrifying all at the same time. It was also the best adrenaline rush I have ever experienced, this was the very beginning of "The Indie Spotlight" except it was still a nameless show.  I was operating Euphonious with my good friend Jody at the time. Together, we prepared ourselves for our first show and we were going live to air. I remember how much I was shaking I was so nervous but once the initial nerves passed I was fine. Now, Jody had years of DJ experience, so for him it was just another gig, no over active nerves. We kept Jan on the phone for sixty minutes we spoke about his music past / present and played his four original songs he had recorded at the time. We all instantly connected and the show was a lot of fun and was the beginning of a music relationship that will continue for years to come, I hope.
Now, eight months and fifteen episodes later the show has evolved into a one week free promotional opportunity for new / independent bands and soloists. With a song play hourly, a daily broadcast of ‘The Indie Spotlight’ and of course unlimited Facebook and Twitter coverage. An area which seems to get overlooked or minimized, is a permanent link on the Euphonious Radio web page; ‘Indie Music’.
‘The Indie Spotlight’ is a true offering of support to the world Indie Music scene from Euphonious Radio.

The Best Support Is Listening

Euphonious Radio is gaining a lot of support with the help from Facebook, Twitter and Blogger. However, the best way to support Euphonious is to listen and provide helpful feedback.

I feel a critical decision coming on in the near future and I don't want to be faced with having to make it. With the arrival of iTunes Radio in the fall 2013 will Euphonious Radio have any relevancy?

In theory, I think it does as long as people continue to listen.  Euphonious Radio supports Indie music where I'm not sure iTunes Radio will. I put a lot of hours in planning shows where you won't get special shows on iTunes Radio.

For those who know me personally, know I have become a huge supporter of Apple products in the past five or six years now. The Euphonious platform is built with Apple products, compatible software and peripherals.

Actually, when I started Euphonious Radio I asked myself, why doesn't Apple do this? After all they have the largest music library in the world! Well, I guess someone heard me ask the question.

I love Euphonious Radio, I am very proud of what I have created from the pure love of music.
It saddens me deeply, believe me when I ask myself will people still tune into Euphonious Radio when iTunes Radio arrives?

Shining Bright

Since I was a young boy, I wanted to be in the music business. I guess it is fair to say my passion is music. I have tried playing instruments over the years but I never found the one that felt right, it felt to forced.
I allowed others and their fool hardy advice to steer me in a direction of real jobs and the security of a regular pay cheque. Most of us are well aware that this no longer exits and really did it ever?
Then after twenty-three years of working at real jobs that never really brought me true satisfaction, I find myself on an island.
Unfortunately, this is not the sun shining and fun filled paradise  but rather one of frustration and disparity.  Unemployable due to a chronic pain condition and without any disability benefits, my last employer terminated me and the Canadian government denied me of any disability benefits.
I find myself isolated from the regular world and all on my own. I thought for months what should I do and then decided along with my good friend Jody to create Euphonious.  Our business venture was too taxing on our friendship, so we decided to remain friends. Euphonious, now became my solo venture and the possibilities only limited by my own imagination.
After months of trying different things I think I finally found the right combination of shows to entertain Euphonious listeners.
Euphonious is my shining star and I think it is shining very bright at the moment. If you have never listened in, I suggest you do, I think you will like it (www.euphonious.ca). I want Euphonious to be a pleasurable music listening experience for the true music fan as well as the casual ones. I take a lot pride in my support towards the Indie Music scene. I know how tough it can be to get airplay on mainstream radio but now there is another option, it is called Euphonious Radio.
My intention is to keep nurturing my star and hopefully it will continue to shine so bright.

A Myriad of Shows

The purpose  of Euphonious is to simply enjoy the pleasure of listening to great music.  I believe that variety is an important part of enjoying music. Therefore, I offer a mix of music like nowhere else, I welcome Rock, Jazz, Pop, Country, Blues and much more all on one web radio station.

Another signature feature of Euphonious is supporting the Indie Music community. I am absolutely thrilled how positive  Indie Artists from around the globe have been contributing their music to Euphonious. I must say how talented all of these artists are and I welcome all radio ready Indie Artists. I wish I had the funds to start my own record label it would be easy to do with all these great artist submissions.

This has inspired me to create "The Indie Spotlight". This is a combination of the song of the day and a daily broadcast of a 60 minute conversation with the artist(s). It started as a weekly one hour show and now has evolved into a free one week promotional opportunity. As you can imagine, this has become very popular with the Indie artists and their fans.

A new upcoming show is "In Between The Grooves" which features great vinyl recordings. This show was inspired from the passion of my good friend Jody and his massive collection.

Then, another upcoming show is "The Concert Hall" where a different collection of live music will be featured each week. I have always loved seeing live performances of my favourite music. This show will be the next best thing.

There are now a total of thirteen music related shows to enjoy and there is now a schedule  to help you navigate through all of these great shows.

I am very proud of Euphonious and how it has grown in such a short time. I look forward to seeing  the listenership continue to grow and interact with each other on Twitter and Facebook. I hope Euphonious grows into an international community where music lovers can converge and interact with one another all "For The Love of Music".

I hope you enjoy this new format of Euphonious!

The beginning of Euphonious

Welcome to the new blog for the web radio station www.euphonious.ca from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Here is where you will find details to the happenings of my free web radio station.  I created Euphonious.ca with my good friend Jody Ure and we began broadcasting a huge library of music (mostly Jody's library) back in October 2012, just as a couple of  fanatical music Lovers.

Unfortunately, our business relationship began to burden our friendship and by February 2013 we made the mutual decision to remain friends and dissolve our business relationship. Since, Jody has a full time job and I don't anymore as my health drove me out of the job market. It made sense for me to continue with Euphonious and it would become my job.

I learned rather quickly to my surprise that just playing great music wasn't going to be enough to bring listeners to Euphonious.ca. I thought the idea of playing all major genres of music like Rock, Pop, Jazz, Country, Blues and Classical, all on one station would be the ticket to getting large flocks of listeners to tune in. I was wrong again.

So then, I have created a weekly radio show titled "The Indie Spotlight" which features a new or independent music band and/or solo artist each week discussing their projects and as a catalyst for helping these artists to sell their music. "The Indie Spotlight" now has become a free one week promotional opportunity for the Indie Music community where I play a different song each day of the artist and once an hour. I also introduced a daily Music Trivia question where you can win cd's or tickets to concerts.

All of these efforts have made little but no major difference to my listenership numbers. I know it has been only five months and I need to be patient. I love Euphonious, I am extremely proud of what I have created out of nothing more than a passion for music. This blog is another effort in spreading the word about Euphonious a commercial free independent broadcast promising a diverse music experience at www.euphonious.ca.

If you love music than I think you will love Euphonious, please give it a try and if you do like it please spread the word.

Sincerely,

Steve Wey
